Al Millan and the Robots, Also know as The
Al Millan Band
Al
Millan was born and raised in Northern California
and started writing songs at age 10. He first went
into folk music heavily influenced by the 60's
bands. Al went on to develop an eclectic style over
the years that has generated many devoted fans.
Performing live shows, they developed a strong local
following. The band has always stretched out during
live performances emphasizing spontaneity and
improvisation. Each performance features strong
soloing by the sax and keyboards. There is a strong
Jazz influence from Trent the sax man (unfortunately
now deceased - we love you Trent!), while Kirk shows his blues influences
on the keys. Gary and Mark hold it all together with
tight Bass/Drum arrangements while Al dominates the
stage with his unique guitar and vocal styling. The
band continues to play throughout Northern
California.
Mystic Seamen
It
all started on a Millan family camping trip near the
shores of Lake Tahoe during the summer of 2002. For
three nights in a row we played songs around the
campfire, losing ourselves in the melodies and
lyrics we had written throughout our lives. By the
light of the fire, Jevon made a suggestion: "We
should record these songs." The rest is
Dusk not Doom history.

Johnny Star
“What’s going on” by Marvin Gaye was the rage and
Johnny Star was on the move playing all over the Bay
Area opening for the likes of Van Morrison, The Sons
of Champlin and the Sopwith Camel. The band produced
several great songs during this period including the
infamous, Ballad of Johnny Star, Rebecca and many,
many more. The draft for the Vietnam war was in full
swing and Al chose to be a Conscientious Objector
and the Draft Board gave him an option to work in
Oklahoma, or wash dishes at a children’s camp in the
mountains near La Honda and Pescadero. He chose the
later and soon spawned Hawk Mountain and the Skulls.
Early Start
More information coming soon… Standing by the
Sea, Jonah’s Wail and some great early folk tunes.
